Free-Spirited Style That Soothes the Soul.
When I was teenager, I thought I had my style all figured out. I avoided anything loose, feminine, or particularly comfortable, opting instead for stiff synthetic fabrics, collared jackets and wrinkle-prone shirts, highly niche pieces that only really went with one or two other items. Getting dressed every morning was frustrating, and I spent the day looking forward to coming home and shedding my clothes the moment my feet crossed the threshold. I thought I had to present myself this way to be taken seriously, and never considered how beautiful it was to be comfortable, and wear items that truly brought you joy.
It was on my road trip with Jordan that I started to discover the beauty of soft, flowing silhouettes, the intersection of elegance, comfort, and sustainability, and the value in clothes that were long-lasting and adaptable to any situation. I realized that dressing yourself is sacred, and the clothes you wear can shape your life; they can give you confidence and energy and soothe your soul, or they can unsettle and stress you out.
I realized I could not comfortably kick my feet up on the dashboard or run along the shorelines of rocky beaches or sit spread-eagled on the grass for sunrise picnics in in my polyester pencil skirts or business-casual work shirts that wrinkled the second you bent over. I loved feeling the wind caress my legs beneath a wild silk sundress and the lake waves wet the bottom of a wind-whipped cotton maxi dress. I loved sitting fireside at twilight in something soft and breathable and not worrying about falling asleep in it.
During our travels, I began carefully selecting unique pieces that spoke to the bohemian, cottagecore spirit awakening inside me. I started paying attention to the labels and appreciating the durability and comfort of cotton, silk and linen. I began gravitating towards subtle florals and minimalistic, classic styles that created an aura of grace and femininity. I found clothes that aligned with my Earth-centred morals and adventurers heart.
I have spent months meticulously curating Rose&Rebel’s summer collection with that same spirit; an assortment of pieces near identical to those I’ve used myself since my twenties, rolled up in my huge camping backpack, pushed to the limits across 30 states and 5 continents, now worn mostly while playing with my children.
To all my fellow explorers, artists, mothers, free-spirits and Earth goddesses, I hope these pieces will find a home in your heart and in your closet as they did with mine.
Love, Jess
